| The National Honor Society of Central High School is best known
for the students' work which exemplifies the "Fantastic Four"
pillars of National Honor Society: scholarship, leadership,
service and character. This year we knew could
not be any different. We decided to come up with different ways to be of service to the community by helping those in need. After much deliberation, it was concluded that we would help the families of patients in the Intensive Care Unit at a local hospital. We brought in different items that could placed in treat bags to give to family members who spent a majority of their time doing nothing more than waiting for the latest news about their loved ones condition. Much like the cartoon characters "The Fantiastic Four" we displayed the super powers that the characters are known for. The powers that these characters are known for are being able to stretch to great lengths, invisibility, turning to fire, and having super strength. Granted, we did not physically become invisible or turn to fire, we displayed these qualities in our own special way. When delivering the treat bags, we were stretched to great lengths due to the fact not every member was able to deliver the goodie bags. One of our goals was to seem invisible as we delivered the tereat bags. We were also "fired up" at the thought of helping others. Finally, we displayed our super strength through our willingness to give support to someone in their time of need. ironically, there were four members present on the last day of the treat bag distribution, symbolizing each of the "Fantastic Four." Each week we wondered what had happened to the patients and families from the previous week. Unfortunately, the one super power that we wanted the most at that time we did not have was the ability to see into the future and see if the family members would be okay. Week after week, we displayed the "Fantastic Four" characteristics by helping families of patients in the Intensive Care Unit by giving them just a little something to smile about in their time of need by leadership, stretching to great lengths, character, being "fired up," scholarship, invisibility, service and super strength. |
