ENTERPRISE
— Central entered R.L. Bates Memorial Stadium on a two-game losing streak. Friday,
the Red Devils were intent on avoiding a third setback.
The
Red Devils ran and passed their way to a 49-21 win against Enterprise to improve
to 2-0 overall, 1-0 in Region 3 standings. Enterprise fell to 1-1 on the season,
0-1 in region play.
The Red Devils scored
on their first possession when Deon Hall ran in from 13 yards out. Antonio King’s
PAT gave Central a 7-0 lead with 9:54 to play in the first period.
Enterprise
quickly got back in the game when sophomore quarterback Rhett Harrelson completed
a 21-yard touchdown pass to Randell Solomon with 5:43 left in the first quarter.
D.J. Kober tied the score with his PAT.
Then,
it was all Central.
Hill scored his
second TD on Central’s next possession on a 24-yard run. The missed PAT left the
score 13-7 with 9:31 to play in the second quarter.
Hill
notched a third touchdown five minutes later and added the 2-point conversion
for good measure.
The score remained
21-7 until Central’s first possession of the third period when Cordary Clark’s
1-yard run and King’s PAT all but put the game out of reach with 8:26 remaining
in the third period.
Enterprise senior
quarterback Ryan Tanner raced 12 yards for a touchdown, and with Kober’s PAT,
the Cats trimmed the lead to 28-14 with 5:37 left in the third period.
Hill
scored yet again, this time on a 9-yard run with five seconds gone in the fourth
quarter. King’s PAT made it 35-14.
Five
minutes later, Clark scored on a 3-yard run and with King’s PAT, the Devils led,
42-14.
Finally going to their second
string on their next possession, the Devils got their final TD on a 5-yard run
by Jerald Walker. King made it 49-14 with the extra point.
Tanner
scored on an 80-yard run and Kober’s PAT brought the score to its final margin
with 39 seconds left in the game.
Enterprise
had lost a costly fumble inside Central’s 10-yard line following a 54-yard Harrelson
run late in the second period with the score 21-7 that changed the game’s tempo.
“I
think we played a quality team here tonight; we didn’t tackle very well and we
made critical mistakes and didn’t take advantage of some opportunities,” said
EHS coach Kevin Collins. “We couldn’t get their offense off the field and they
finally just wore us down.
