This program
provides education and experience in current and emerging technology in
the scientific and practical study of beauty culture with instruction
in the care and beautification of the hair, skin, and nails.
Instruction is
primarily competency-based, derived from occupational analysis and/or
recognized national standards. Instruction is designed to prepare students
for the Alabama licensing examination. It includes, but not limited to,
cosmetic and hair chemistry, sanitation, safety, anatomy, shop management
and personal management. Particular emphasis is given to decision-making
and problem-solving techniques in applying science, mathematics, communication
concepts, and social skills to solve technological problems. In addition,
instruction and training are provided in the proper care, maintenance,
and use of tools and equipment and in all applicable local, state, and
federal safety and environmental regulations.
