The Central High School Career/Technical School offers instruction to adults who would like to take courses to improve their skills in a current job or learn skills for a new job.
Classes for the new term begin the week of August 24, 2009. The deadline for registration is August 14, 2009.

Each course fee is $50, except Medical Office Assistant, Culinary Arts and Dental Assisting, which are $100 (these courses meet twice a week.) Classes are held from 6:00 - 9:00 PM
. Some courses require a book and materials fee. All classes extend for 10 weeks. Availability of classes depends on enrollment. No refunds will be given unless classes fail to make. Courses not listed may be scheduled if sufficient interest is expressed.

Fees may be paid in the Career/Technical office at Central High School, Monday through Thursday, between the hours of 8:00 AM and 3:00 PM.

BASIC CAKE DECORATING
This introductory course will include basic skills in cake decorating, practical ideas and tips for creating beautiful cakes. We will study the tools and equipment used in creating different styles and techniques. Various borders, designs and flowers will be demonstrated. We will also cover different kinds of frostings and when to use them.

REAL ESTATE
This introductory class gives insight to the real estate field, where opportunities are unlimited should one seek to become a Real Estate Licensee. As we discuss information on terms, ethics, representation, financing, and fair practices of real estate in this class, you can determine if you are interested in making real estate your professional career. Additional certification is necessary to become a licensed Real Estate Agent.

HOUSE WIRING
This course is designed to teach basic house wiring fundamentals. This course includes National Electric Code and local code requirements, circuit layout, electrical materials, and the proper installation of electrical wiring, compents and devices used in the home.

CULINARY ARTS
This course provides students with the knowledge and skills for working in the food service and hospitality industries. Major topics to be covered are basic sanitation and safety, HACCP applications, equipment technology, creating menus, cooking techniques, plate presentation, seasoning and flavoring, basic garde manager, stocks & sauces, baking techniques and desserts, hospitality, basic service, table setting, serving techniques and napkin folding.

COMPUTER LITERACY
Computer Literacy is designed to provide students with an introduction to keyboard operation, basic computer skills and to provide an opportunity for students to become familiar with the equipment and terminology used in operating computers.

COSMETOLOGY
Are you interested in becoming a cosmetologist, nail technician or skilled care specialist? This introductory course will expose you to many facets, including care for hair, skin, and nails. Subjects covered are such as "What is hair?", "How do I care for my hair?", rules and regulations that govern the cosmetology industry, how to properly use tools and equipment, manicures, pedicures, cosmetic application, facials, shampooing, conditioning and styling. THIS IS NOT A CERTIFIED COURSE, AND HOURS CANNOT BE USED TO OBTAIN LICENSURE.

DENTAL ASSISTING

The Dental Assisting classes will include introduction to the dental profession, State Practice Acts, ethical procedures, human relations & self-improvement, nutrition as it applies to dentistry, histomorphology, infection control & sterilization, dental radiography, dental emergencies, patient education, chair aide assistance, roentgenology and anatomy as related to dental care. Computer Literacy and Computer Applications is recommended prior this course. ** Additional supplies required

FLORAL DESIGNS & HORTICULTURE
This class will consist of instruction and hands-on activities in the areas of basic horticulture & floral design. Basic line designs of floral arrangements, selection and conditioning of flowers for use in cut arrangements, construction of butonnieres/corsages, bud vases & centerpiece arrangements using fresh and/or silk flowers and wrapping of potted plants, including bow making, are planned activities.

INTERNET USAGE
Designed for individuals who have completed computer literacy or have adequate work experience with computer usage. This course will provide skills needed to navigate the Internet and explore other online activities such as e-mail, games, research, current events, music, etc.

SPANISH 1
Are you new to learning Spanish? This course is designed to introduce the Spanish language at a beginning level concentrating on verbal skills. Lessons to help you get started cover grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and everyday usage will be taught.

MEDICAL OFFICE ASSISTANT
This class consists of career exploration, history of medicine, federal regulations, first aid/cpr, communication skills, applied legal/ethical concepts, administrative procedures, finances, office/human resource management and preparing for entry into the profession. Microbiology, pharmacology, anatomy/physiology, insturments, physical/lab exams, nutrition, administration of medication and medical terminology will be covered. ** Additional supplies required

MICROSOFT OFFICE
This is a course designed for individuals who have completed Computer Literacy or have adequate work experience with computers. The course will consist of instruction in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.

GED PREPARATION
This course is designed for individuals that do not have a high school diploma and want to prepare for the GED examination. There is no fee for this program.
