Central
High School Fast Track |
|
Phenix City
Schools and Central High School are proud to offer Central Fast
Track during June 2007. This program offers motivated students a
chance to get ahead in their high school education. Taking advantage
of this summer session allows students to complete certain required
courses. This provides more schedule flexibility, allowing them to
take more challenging academic courses later in their high school
career or elective courses that might not otherwise be available to
them. |
|
Classes will meet from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00
p.m. June 4-29, Monday-Friday. The cost is $100 per course, and only
one course can be taken at a time. Registration deadline is June 1,
2007. |
|
These courses are for students trying to get ahead, not for students who may have failed this course during the school year.

Interactive Multimedia Design (all grades) This course is designed to provide students with skills involving presentations, desktop publishing, website publishing and digital graphics. Students use various hardware peripherals as well as the Internet for integrating skills to create a variety of publications. Students who are computer proficient must be pre-approved to take this course in lieu of Business Technology Essentials as their required computer credit. For CFT, traditional classwork and projects will be done at home. |

Lifelong Individualized Fitness
Education (LIFE) The goal of the LIFE course is for students to make physical activity a part of their lives beyond high school. The focus of the required high school physical education course is health-enhancing activity. LIFE provides a blueprint for a lifetime of healthy living. Students will learn to apply various aspects of fitness and to assess their own fitness levels. LIFE utilizes a variety of health-enhancing activities derived from modifying sports and games as a vehicle for reinforcing and applying fitness components and principles. This is a state-required course for all students to successfully pass in order to receive a high school diploma that no other course may substitute for. For CFT, independent study work will be required. |

Driver’s Education with Health (minimum of incoming 10th graders) Driver’s Education and Boating Safety consists of 30 hours of classroom instruction, a minimum of 12 hours of simulation and at least 3 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction on the road. The focus of Health and Wellness Education is to provide students with further opportunities to apply health-related knowledge to personal life. They will develop skills for accessing health information, products and services for current and future health needs and implement a personal health plan designed to decrease adolescent health risks. They will also distinguish between positive and negative impact of families, cultural and religious groups and institutions, mass media and technology on health. Additionally, students will gain knowledge of the interdependence among environmental factors, learn to administer first-aid procedures (including CPR), and gain an understanding of the importance of recognizing, avoiding, and reporting verbal, physical, sexual and emotional abuse. Students will become competent in making health-enhancing decisions regarding the use of medications, avoiding harmful substances and communicating about substance use/abuse prevention. For CFT, independent study work will be required. Driving test for the driver’s license can be administered by the Instructor. |
