Our Football team posted a 8-3 regular season record this school year, advancing to the 2nd round of playoffs.
 
Seniors Dana Thomas and Shekelia Frazier will take the Alabama Cosmetology Licensing Exam in June. These students will have successfully completed 3 years in the Cosmetology Program.

Central's NJROTC made its mark at the Area 8 Field Meet in Auburn February 12, 2005.
The 1600-yard shuttle relay team of Colbert, Moneer, Magruder, Torbert, Spinks, James, K. Fields, O. Fields, Lewey, Baker, Duberly, Cook, Grier, Harrington, Brooks, and Stallings placed Third. The 1-mile relay team of O. Fields, Moneer, James, Colbert, Baker, Stallings, Brooks, and Duberly also placed Third. Willie Baker received the 5th place award in the curl-up competition by completing 185 correct repetitions.
 
Victor Cross was selected the 2005 Alabama High School Student Youth Volunteer by Prudential Spirit of Community Awards.

 
The Boys basketball record was 17-10 this year. They made it into the first round of the state play offs, and Marquise Howard was named to 1st team all Bi-City by Columbus Ledger.
  The Girls basketball team ranked 3rd in 6A in the state. They were 6A area 3 Champions, Sub-regional champions, and made an appearence in the sweet sixteen. Their final record this year was 26-5. Britney Ford was selected most valuable player in the area tournament and selected to 1st team all Bi-City by the Columbus-Ledger. Dominique Sariano was selected to 6A area all tournament team.

 
CHS Future Teachers of Alabama Club won 2nd place in the Alabama Education Association's Tell Gate presentation at the State Convention Feb. 12. Team members were Ashley Allen, Brooke Harwood, Jessica Howard, Amy Ludwig, Ryean Miles.
 
Senior Harry Sneed was awarded a football scholarship to Alabama A&M.

Joseph Mathews placed first in the Region for the Voice of Democracy contest.

 
The Central FBLA Chapter competed at Regionals Feb 26, 2005. Placing among the top six in the Southern Region were: Accounting II-Heather Battle; Business Calculations-Amanda Wright; Job Interview-Lyssa Sanders; Public Speaking-Jamond Perry.
 
Senior Trent Harris was awarded a Baseball Scholarship with Chattahoochee Valley Community College.

 
At the Alabama Association of National Honor Societies Feb. 11-13, 2005, CHS won 1st Place for Outstanding Service project; 1st Place for Outstanding Involvement Project; 1st Place for Scrapbook; 1st Place for Academic Competition (Joseph Mathews, David Rhodes, Andrew Wood, Carly Addison); and the Gold Chapter of Distinction;
 

CHS participated in the Health Occupations Students of America Regional Competition Feb 25, 2005. First place winners were Julie Chandler for Job Seeking and Quachetta Bellamy & Candis Mathews for Career Health Display. Second place winners were Muraguri Kariuki for Dental Spelling, Jamie Tyner for Medical Math, Frank Barber for Growth & Development Knowledge Test, Keosha Evans & Laura Satterwhite for CPR/First Aid, Tiffany English for Sports Medicine and Ashley Thompson for First Aid/Rescue Breathing. Third place winners were Anetrice Rogers for Researched Persuasive Speaking, Julie Chandler for Newsletter and Danielle Davis for Medical Spelling.


 

The Keyhole & Centrala staffs brought back the following awards from the Alabama Scholastic Press Association State Convention Feb 25-26, 2005. Winning First Place were Ali Edmunds for Literary Magazine Layout & Design and for Poetry Writing. Winning Third Place were Lacey Valentini & J. D. Harding for Cover Design and Scott Rodriguez for Essay. Victor Cross won Honorable Mention for Digital Design.

 
During Christmas break the JV Cheerleading Squad won 1st place in their division at the World Cheerleading Association competition in Nashville, TN and the Varsity won 3rd place in their division.

 
Gloritza Cabrera was named Outstanding Student of the Education Academy for 1st semester at Columbus State University.
 

Central's Track Team participated in the Alabama Indoor State Track Meet Feb 4-5, 2005. Placing Fourth were Spivey, Miles, Wallace &Menefee in 4x200m Relay. Placing Fifth were M. Purnell in Shot Put and Spivey, Miles, Wallace, Buskey in 4x400m Relay. Placing Seventh was B. Spivey in 400 m. Placing Eighth were A. Wallace in Long Jump and C. Thomas in 55m dash. Placing Ninth wa Q. Cotton in Long Jump. Placing Tenth were Smith, Sumbry, Thomas & Cotton in 4x200m Relay. Placing Eleventh were Smith, Sumbry, Thomas & Cotton in 4x400m Relay.


 
Senior Bryan Woodall was awarded a Baseball Scholarship with Auburn.
 
The Central High School Leo Club assisted the Phenix City Lions Club with their Sight and Hearing Screening in the local elementary schools.

 
At the Alabama Association of National Honor Societies Feb. 11-13, 2005, Joseph Mathews won the $500 Al Bigger Scholarship that is given annually by the Alabama Association of National Honor Societies.
 
Senior Cordaro Howard was awarded a Football Scholarship to Georgia Tech.

Victor Cross received the following awards at the 2005 Greater East Alabama Science and Engineering Fair held March 4-5, 2005: Air Force Regional Fair winner; American Psychological Society/Teachers of Psychology in Secondary Schools Award for outstanding research in psychology; First Place, category Behavior and Social Sciences, Senior Division; First Place, Senior Division (overall winner).
 
Senior Brandon Long was awarded a football scholarship to Stillman College.

 
Three teams from Central placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd at the State Future Problem Solving Competition on March 11-12, 2005. The team consisting of Karli Jackson, Collin Ray, Christian Lawrence, and Raymond Jones advance to the International Competition in June.


Making Positive Actions Count (MPAC) members have been involved in numerous activities this school year: The Red Ribbon Rally at PCIS in October, HIV/AIDS Prevention Education at SGS in February, HIV/AIDS Prevention Education at PCIS in March, hosting the Public Health Area 8 Community Group Planning Meeting in April, and Working for Special Olympics at CHS in May.

 
The Envirothon Team, consisting of Janet Deason, Joseph Mathews, Matthew McFerrin, Brittany McGarr, and Sarah Turner, placed first in Aquatics, Forestry, and Soil at the state competition April 2005.
 
At the AHSAA Sectional II track meet in April 2005, the Red Devils qualified 6 athletes for the State Meet and the Devilettes qualified 8 athletes. Hailey Foster is the 2005 Sectional II champion in the 100 meter and 200 meter dash. Foster teamed with Mark Menefee, Mike Miles and Bernard Spivey to place 2nd in the 4x400 relay.


 

Congratulations to the members of the Men and Women track teams on their performance at the Alabama High School Athletic Association State Track Championships May 6-7, 2005. The Red Devils placed 6th and the Devilettes placed 16th with 11 points. Hailey Foster is the new Class 6-A 100m State Champion and State Runner-Up in the 200m dash. Bernard Spivey is State Runner-Up in the 400m dash. The foursome of Spivey, Foster, Michael Miles and Mark Menefee is the State Runner-Up in the 4x400m relay.
 
The NJROTC department at Central won the Unit Achivement Award for school year 2004-2005. They were in competition with 57 other school from all the southeastern states.

Congratulations to the Red Devil Baseball team. They went 21-7 in the regular season and advanced to the State Play-Off Quarterfinals.
Congratulations to Mr. Wilson's daughter Haley, who finished tied for 6th in the Alabama State Golf Championships. She finished 5 shots behind the state champion. Haley is an eighth grader at South Girard who plays for Central's golf team.

 
Congratulations to Cory Brown, won the Alabama 6A section 3, number 6 tennis singles title Spring 2005.

Central High raised over $2,000 for the March of Dimes, and our school system collectively raised over $5,000.
