Central High School students beat competitors from eight countries and
46 states at the 25th annual Future Problem Solving International Conference.The
students placed in all four divisions, including Grand Champion in the
senior division of civic community, First Place in skit, third place in
alternate booklet writing, and seventh place in booklet writing. The 12
students are part of a gifted program under the supervision of Mrs. Barbara
Romey. |

Coach Ron Nelson has stepped down as Head Baseball Coach, turning over the reins to Coach Jason Stamp. Nelson accumulated an impressive 513-182 record in 24 seasons with the Red Devils. Nelson will continue as Head Football Coach. |

CONGRATULATIONS to the 9th Grade Football Team on their undefeated season. The Red Devils finished with a perfect 7-0 record. For the season, the offense averaged 32 points per game, and the defense allowed only 5.8 points per game. Congratulations for a great year! |

Congratulations to the CHS Dirt Devils Robotics Team for their 5th place finish in the Alabama BEST Robotics Competition at Auburn University October 28, 2006. Their robot performed better than the robots from 11 other schools including the likes of Hoover High School’s Engineering Academy, Brewbaker Technical Magnet High School, Vestavia Hills High School and Auburn High School. Team members included the Drivers: Jake Shelhouse , Caleb Walker, Nick DiChiara, Anna Elkins, and Trey Caudell. The Spotters were: John Carroll, Chelsea Allen, Terrance Jackson, Justin Morgan, Hannah Frander, Sara Selvage and Jessica Martin. The team Mentors were Mrs. Romey, Mr. Howell, and Coach Morgan. |

Congratulations to Logan Copley for winning the William Randolph Hearst Senate Competition. He will spend a week in Washington, D.C. and receive a $5,000 scholarship. Only two students from each state are selected. |

Congratulations to NJROTC Armed Drill Team for placing 3rd place overall in the Southeastern Regional Drill Competition in Montgomery November 4. The Armed Drill Team was led by Cadet George Cunningham and placed 3rd out of 11 area high schools. |

Congratulations to NJROTC Cadets Amanda Jackson and Brittney Smith for scoring an “Outstanding” on the recent Command Inspection that was conducted November 1. Both cadets are first year cadets and had a perfect uniform. They were awarded the Personal Appearance award. |

The ensemble cast (Blake O’Steen, Karli Jackson, Christian Lawrence, Lauren Duke, Collin Ray, Jake Shellhouse) won Second Place and all were made members of the All-Star Cast. NJROTC held their mid-year awards ceremony 12-13-06 and the following cadets were recognized: Cadet Sean Randolph was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Commander and selected as Commanding Officer of NJROTC. Cadet Brittany Truttling was selected to the position of Executive Officer. Cadet Cannon Baker was promoted to the rank of Senior Chief and announced as the new Senior Enlisted Officer for NJROTC. Cadet Arcacia Butler was promoted to the officer ranks and the position of Training Officer. |

Congratulations to the Navy JROTC program for winning 2nd place overall in the Baldwin County Drill and Field Meet competition January 20, 2007. The unit took 1st place in the 8x100 relay, 1st in the push-up category, 1st in the crab run relay, 2nd in the Unarmed Exhibition Drill Team (led by Arcacia Butler), 2nd in curl-ups, 3rd in the Marksmanship Competition and 3rd in the Basic Drill Competition (led by Jessica Jennings). Individual medal winners include Brianne Brooks (1st place in female curl-ups), Shauvez Bennett (1st place in male push-ups), Demario Ingram (1st place in male curl-ups) and Jessica Jennings (2nd place in female curl-ups). |

Congratulations to three Central High School NJROTC cadets who were recently selected to attend the Naval Academy Summer Seminar program. Cadet Jessica Jennings, Cadet Najeeb Carter and Cadet George Cunningham will be going to the Naval Academy this summer to participate in the seminar. These students are academically and physically sound and will represent CHS well. This is a big advantage for them as they apply for an appointment to the Naval Academy. |

The Central High School's NJROTC has won the Distinguished Unit Award with Academic Honors for the 2nd straight year. Only the top 10 percent of schools are fortunate enough to earn this high status and our ROTC unit was selected out of 73 area 8 schools. Winning this award allows more qualified cadets an opportunity to be nominated to attend a Service Academy School. | WRBL News

Congratulations to Bernard Spivey, who became the 2007 400-meter champion at the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s Sectional Two Championship April 27-28, 2007. The team of Spivey, Brandon Johnson, Deont’e Swinton and Devince Bryant was runner-up in the 4x100 meter relay, while Spivey, Bryant, Johnson and Sean Finney were runners-up in the 4x400 meter relay. Deont’e Swinton was runner-up in the 110 hurdles, and Brandon Johnson placed 4th in the 400 meters. In the girls division the team of Precious Thomas, Trenneshia Miles, Ramona Smith and Alexandra Coleman placed 4th. | |
