Central High School Business Department was the featured career technical cluster for the month of September. Central High School Masonry and Carpentry Departments were the featured career technical clusters for the month of October. These students were selected as the outstanding in the course offerings: Reginald Heard - Masonry and Thomas Edwards - Carpentry. 

Jonathan Burditt and Chaz Tolbert competed at the National Future Business Leaders of America competition in Chicago this past June.

 
 

Stacy Sthole came in second as New Teacher of the Year for Career/Technical Education in the state of Alabama.

Congratulations to NJROTC for winning 2nd place overall at the Eufaula High School Drill Competition. The cadets brought home a 2nd place trophy in Armed Drill Competition, 2nd place trophy in Physical Fitness, 1st place overall in the Basketball competition and 2nd place overall in Uniform Inspection. Individual award winners were: Raymondo Paulk for 1st place in the Mile Run, Shameki Henderson for 1st place in Sit-Ups, Telesha Jones for 1st place in Push-Ups.

 
 

Barbara Romey was selected as the History Channel Outstanding History Educator Award for 2007. She was presented a $5,000 prize and a special plaque at The National History Day Awards Ceremony  June 14, 2007 at University of Maryland campus.

Congratulations to Arcacia Butler who was chosen as a winner in the Disney Dreamers Academy. Arcacia will travel to the academy at Disney World on January 17-20.

 
 

Congratulations to Central High’s cheerleader teams. Both Junior Varsity and Varsity won 1st place in Regional Competition and will compete at the National Competition at Disney World.

Congratulations to the Model United Nations team for an outstanding result at the Columbus State University Model UN competition on November 19-20. Trey Caudle, Tasha Dew, Stephenie McGucken, Cameron Alexander, Chance Renfroe, Hannah Richards and Rachel Harp were named as outstanding delegates. The Belgian delegation of Stephenie McGucken and Cameron Alexander received the overall delegation award for the Security Council. Trey Caudle and Tasha Dew were awarded best delegation in the General assembly as well as Best Delegation overall. Congratulations to all of the team members who represented their countries well.

 
 

Congratulations to the following students who received Superior ratings at State Theatre Competition: Brett Horne, Kaylen Morgan, De’Andre Bowman, Erin Wilson. Gabby King, Lauren Duke, Alana Bowser, Tamisah Quick and Jake Shellhouse received Excellent ratings. Erin Wilson placed 2nd in the state for Contemporary Comedic Monologue and Jasmine Wyatt received a $200 spotlight scholarship for theatre to any Alabama university.

Congratulations to Central's NJROTC unit for winning 1st Place Overall at the Baldwin High School Drill Invitational on January 19, 2008. The cadets competed against 12 high schools in Millidgeville, Georgia.

 
 

Congratulations to Central's NJROTC unit for winning 2nd Place Overall at the Escambia County Drill Meet on January 23, 2008. The Color Guard Team led by Cadet Adavious Mortan placed 2nd overall. The Armed Exhibition Team led by Cadet Cameron Cantrell placed 2nd overall. The Unarmed Exhibition Team led by Cadet Commanding Officer Jessica Jennigs placed 3rd overall.

Congratulations to the students who participated in the Andrew College Academic Competition on January 23, 2008. Congratulations to Central’s JROTC Unit for winning 1st place in Color Guard and the 1600-yard relay at the Area 8 Regional Competition in Pensacola, Florida on February 2, 2008. The team also won 3rd place overall in the Pushup Competition.

   
 

Congratulations to the members of the JV Math Team (Sarah Bowser, Sarah Selvidge, David Conner and Laurel Bouldin) for placing 2nd in the Team Competition at CVCC’s annual Math Tournament. Sarah Bowser was the team high scorer. Stephenie McGucken was the high scorer on the Varsity Team.

Central High School’s winners of the FBLA online competition are: Bennie Davis and Jamie Staller-Accounting II; Susan Crews and Nicholas Goshea-Business Calculations; Jalisa Sullivan-Business Math; Destiny Ligon-Introduction to Business; Jonathan Burditt and Andrea Roberts-Job Interview; Berrell Cobb, Adrian McMillian and Miranda Mitchell-Marketing; Sarah Bowser and George Cunningham-Personal Finance. Winners of the Skills Events will be announced by the State next week. Winners are eligible to compete at the FBLA State Leadership Conference and Competition in April.

   
 

Congratulations to the members of the boys and girls Track Teams on the performance to the Auburn Relays on February 23, 2008. The Devilettes received outstanding performances from Ramona Smith and Machen Spencer and placed fifth overall. The Red Devils were led by the foursome of Curtis Hoyne, Sean Finney, Courtney Clark and Deonte Swinton, which won the Sprint Medley Relay and placed 2nd in the 4x400 meter relay.

Congratulations to the CHS Girls Golf Team for winning the 3rd Annual Auburn Invitational Golf Tournament on March 10, 2008.  Haley Wilson shot a course record for females, 4 under par 68, to win low medalist award. Alex Harrell (7th grade) shot 80 and Lena Lemieux (7th grade) shot 96.

   
 

Congratulations to Quayshawn Ivey and David Upton for being selected and for participating in the Alabama State University Honor Band March 14-16, 2008. David was first chair and Quayshawn was second chair in the trumpet section.

Congratulations to Devondra Short, D. Terrell Sims, and Abrielle Walker for bringing home a Silver Medal at the FCCLA STARS State Culinary Arts Competetion in Birmingham March 15, 2008.

   
 

Congratulations to Central’s Future Problem Solving Teams for their excellent performance at the State competition March 14-15, 2008. The Senior team of Stephenie McGucken, Trey Caudle, Cameron Alexander and Andrew Terry placed 2nd in the Booklet competition. The Senior team of Anna Elkins, Angel Garrison, Quinton Elias and David Conner placed 3rd in booklet and 1st in Presentation of Action Plan. The Middle team of Shawna Easter, Nicole Degree, Jamecia Lewis and Corey Moskol placed 3rd in both Booklet and Presentation of Action Plan. The Middle team of Andrew Mathews, Perry Holton, Justin Garrett and Reid Rhodan placed 2nd in both Booklet and Presentation of Action Plan and will advance to the International competition at Michigan State University in June. Congratulations also go out to Justin Morgan for placing 1st in the Senior Individual Booklet competition.

Central High School Henry Fleming Scholarship winners were announced April 10, 2008. Two scholarships of $2500 were awarded to Quachetta Bellamy and Rico Porch. Kimberly Moulton was the lucky winner of the “Pimp My Ride” 1994 Chevy S-10 extended cab truck scholarship fundraiser.

Congratulations to the winners of the Arbor and Earth Day Paper Drive! First Place was Mrs. Eastridge’s 2nd block: 2500.8 pounds. Second Place was Mrs. Byrd’s 2nd block: 2,281.64 pounds. Third Place was Mrs. Byrd’s 1st block: 1,041.4 pounds. Together we recycled almost 7,000 pounds, which saved about 60 trees!

   
 

Congratulations to Tasha Dew. She has been awarded the Coca-Cola First Generation Scholarship for $20,000 to the University of Alabama.

Congratulations to the members of the Boys and Girls Track Teams on their performance at the State Track Meet. Deont’e Swinton was the 2008 State Runner-Up in the 110 meter hurdles. The 4 by 400 meter relay team of Machen Spencer, Portia Watkins, Nicole Toombs and Tiesha Huff placed 6th.

   
 

Congratulations to Stephenie McGucken for winning the 2008 Page One Award in Social Science. She received a trophy and a check for $1000 at the ceremony on May 7, 2008.

Congratulations to Candis Matthews and Tasha Dew for being named finalists for the Exchange Club Student of the Year. Tasha Dew received 1st runner up and Candis Mathews was selected the Exchange Club Student of the Year.

   
 

Congratulations to Curtis Hoyne on his performance at the AHSAA State Decathlon championships. Curtis posted the best overall time in the 400 meters and placed 21st out of 75 athletes, scoring 4465 points.

Congratulations to the CHS Girls Golf Team for winning the AHSAA Class 6A State Championship by 4 shots. Team members are Haley Wilson, Alex Harrell and Lena Lemieux. Haley Wilson won the individual state championship by 4 shots, and Alex Harrell was named to the All-State Team as well.

   
 

Congratulations to Central’s JROTC unit for being the recipient of the Distinguished Unit with Academic Honors for the 3rd consecutive year. Also, congratulations to Cadet Shauvez Bennett for being named Cadet Commanding Officer for the upcoming school year.

Najeeb Carter has received a $180,000.00 ROTC Scholarship and will be attending Savannah State University Fall 2008.  After graduation Mr. Carter will be commissioned as a Navy Ensign in the U.S. Navy.
