Splash Park Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

was July 21, 2009.

The splash park is an addition to the boundless playground that was conceived and built by our gifted students.

CHS Varsity Football Players read to Lakewood Elementary classes in August 2009. They gave out CHAMP (Central High Athletes Maximize Potential) Chips to Explorers who have demonstrated outstanding character and work ethic during the first two weeks of school.

 

   

 

 

Central High School NJROTC conducted flag training for students at Lakewood Elementary and Ridgecrest Elementary in August.  The cadets instructed students on the proper way to raise and lower the American and State flag in front of their schools and demonstrated how to correctly fold the flags.  The training is very valuable and demonstrates pride and patriotism

 

Central High School NJROTC offered discipline training for the Golden Ambassadors at Meadowlane Elementary School September 9, 2009.  The cadets talked to the young men about staying focused, bullying, maintaining good grades and setting long and short term goals.

 

 

   

 


On September 17, 2009 an I-beam from the World Trade Center

arrived at the National Infantry Museum, accompanied by nearly 100 first responder New York firefighters.

Central High School Resource Officer Gary Jenkins was a member of the Honorary Color Guard of Phenix City and Columbus police officers at ceremony and Central students, Justin and Jacob Garrett, weekend volunteers at the Infantry Museum who spent the summer conducting tours and youth day camps at the museum, were witnesses of the arrival.

 

Congratulations to CHS JV Cheerleaders! They were selected to perform during half-time of the Auburn University game on September 26, 2009. It was nationally televised on the Fox Sports channel.

Congratulations to Erin Tyson, who was awarded a four-year softball scholarship to Columbus State University.

 

CONGRATULATIONS to the 14 NJROTC cadets who completed the 3-month School Emergency Response Team (SERT) course. The course included fire safety, first aid, weather, mass casualty, disaster preparedness, disaster medical operations, light search and rescue, organization of emergency response team, disaster psychology, and terrorism in the SERT. The program consisted of 30 hours of training that was held at Central High School NJROTC.   

         
Congratulations to Central’s JROTC for winning 1st place in the Unarmed Drill Competition at Escambia County High School January 20, 2010. Stephen Curtiss won 1st place in Individual Solo Drill. Color Guard placed 3rd overall. The Athletic team won 2nd place overall.   Congratulations to Brooke Head, CHS Softball Team member, who was awarded a full athletic scholarship to Chattahoochee Valley Community College.

The Central High School Red Devil Wrestlers participated in the Columbus High BiCity Tournament January 30, 2010 and earned fourth place in team points. 


Second place medals were earned by Andrew Mathews (171 lb) and Luke Wilson (215 lb).  Jonathan Mitchell (103 lb.) won the third place medal. Earning fourth place medals were Theron Anderson ( 112 lb ), Justin Garrett (145 lb.),  Glenn Miller (189 lb.), and Tori Bennett, Heavyweight division.

  CHS Varsity Cheerleading Competition Squad won 1st Place at Cheersport Nationals February 6-7, 2010 in Atlanta, GA.
         
Congratulations to the Red Devil Wrestling Team, which qualified 4 wrestlers and had 9 honorable mentions at the State Sectional Meet February 5-6, 2010. Jonathan Mitchell (103 lb./2nd place), 125 lb Quincy Lewis (125 lb/4th place),  Luke Wilson (215 lb./3rd place), and Tori Bennett (285 lb./2nd place) will advance to the State Championships.   Congratulations to the following students who competed in the

Cadet Orrin Brown was awarded the $180,000 Navy ROTC Scholarship. This scholarship covers tuition and room and board for four years, plus monthly stipends to cover book expenses. Orrin will be attending Tuskegee University this fall.

Congratulations to CHS teacher Ronald Shephard. He has been selected for the 2010-2011 Alabama History Education Initiative. This is a pilot project designed to develop social studies curriculum units for the students of Alabama using primary sources.
