CENTRAL
ACCELERATION PROGRAM
CAP
is an alternative education program offered through the Phenix City
Public Schools and Central High School.
This program is designed for students who lack required credits
necessary for graduation through Central High School's regular education
program.
Students are enrolled in the Central Acceleration Program
for nine week periods. They are required to complete specific courses
within that period. Continued enrollment is based on successful
conmpletion of their regularly scheduled CAP classes. Students are
not eligible to graduate ahead of their age appropriate graduation
date.
Criteria for Eligibility:
Students must be age 16 or above and must meet the following
criteria to be eligible for CAP:
1) One or more grades behind during high school years in their class
standing as defined by the Phenix City Schools credit guidelines.
2) Must be classified as a junior or a senior and, otherwise, eligible
for graduation.
To Maintain Enrollment:
1) Students must attend a minimum of six (6) clock hours per week.
2) Students who have been identified at the end of their junior
year as needing a credit must complete a minimum of one (1) credit
no later than the end of the first nine weeks or grading period.
3) Students needing more than one (1) credit must complete all credits
needed no later than one month prior to graduation. Any student
who fails a course 1st semester must make up this credit no later
than this date as well.
4) Students may not earn more than four (4) credits per school year
in CAP.
5) Students can not attend CAP for a course that they are currently
enrolled in. They can not be removed from that course in order to
make it up in CAP.
6) Saturday CAP will be offered at various times throughout the
school year and is a privilege.
7) Beginning with the senior class of 2008, students must attend
summer school to make up a credit the summer prior to their senior
year in order to be eligible for CAP. |
