BEGINNINGS
New
Beginnings is a parenting program offered through the Phenix City
Public Schools.
Since teen pregnancy can jeopardize the education, health, and financial
resources of the teen mother, the future may not hold great promise.
To address the needs of these at-risk students, the Phenix City
Public Schools developed the New Beginnings Parenting Program.
The goals of the New Beginnings Program are to assist the student
to:
1) Prevent unplanned pregnancies
2) Care for herself during and after pregnancy
3) Acquire parenting skills
4)Secure employability skills
5) Continue education in an environment of encouragement and support
6) Develop problem-solving and decision-making skills
Pregnant students enrolled in the Phenix City School System are
referred to the program by their school counselor, teachers, parents,
principals, or staff. The student will remain in the program one
term or until the end of the school year in which her infant is
born.
Requirements for admission:
1) Be enrolled in the Phenix City Public Schools
2) Have parent or guardian consent
3) Have medical confirmation of pregnancy
