Profile notebooks.)
Organization
Kandi
Mobarakzadeh, 1st grade teacher at Lakewood, shared this organization
tip. Print this file, cut out and glue each "Week at a Glance"
to the front of a file folder. You can then laminate the file folders
if you wish. Keep everything pertaining to that lesson in the file
folder for future reference. You'll quickly be able to see what skills
are covered during that week by looking at the outside of the file
folder.

Assessment
These forms were created and shared by Rachel Musser
of Santa Rosa County, Florida. Rachel suggests that teachers add students'
names in the column on the left, put an X in the column where an error
occured per item per student. Then, simply by reading down the column
a teacher will immediately determine the number of items missed by
class and by individual. This will be a great tool for differentiated
small group instruction. Rachel adds these printing hints:
*Print in color to view items assessed and the frequency (color-coded)
*Use landscape orientation
*Use legal-sized paper
*All spreadsheets are two pages (print, trim, and tape to make a final
copy just slightly larger than letter-size paper)

Vocabulary
Tic-Tac-Toe
(For a literacy center game, make a tic-tac-toe board.
Or you may print seasonal tic-tac-toe boards at the links below. Print
out the vocabulary cards for the desired lesson and cut apart. Students
play with a partner. Put the cards face down in a stack. Partner 1
takes a card and reads the question to Partner 2. If Partner 2 answers
correctly, he marks an X on the tic-tac-toe board. If he does not
answer correctly, Partner 1 marks an O on the tic-tac-toe board. Partner
2 then takes a card and reads the question to Partner 1. Partner 1
marks an O if he answers correctly. Partner 2 marks an X if Partner
1 does not answer correctly. Play continues until someone gets three
in a row on the tic-tac-toe board.)
Vocabulary
Dominoes
(Vocabulary Dominoes for Lessons 1 - 6 were created
and shared by Tanya Ney, Starke, Florida)
(Vocabulary Dominoes for Lessons 20 - 30 were created
and shared by Betty Williams, Missouri)
(Print on cardstock
and cut apart dominoes. Note: the first domino piece will have "start"
on one side and a vocabulary word on the other side. Lay the "start"
domino down first. The student will match the domino with the correct
definition to that domino and continue laying down dominoes in that
manner until all dominoes are down. Note: the domino with "stop"
should be last.)

"BIG DOG WORDS"
(*Another suggested use: Print the files below and
cut into individual flashcards. Punch a hole in the top corner of
each card and attach a ring to the group of cards. Place the cards
in a literacy center titled "Throw Me a Bone!" Students
work in pairs. The first student chooses a word, reads it to his partner
and has the partner use the word in a sentence. You can add a student-friendly
definition to the back of each card if you wish. OR...another option...keep
the ring of word cards in a certain location and allow students to
autograph the word card each time they use the word in general conversation.
You can also do a combination of the two activities by having the
students use the word card ring as a center described above and have
them sign the back of the card when they use the word in general conversation.
Anything to motivate kids to keep these words in circulation!)
