Here are a few points that we would like to let our parents here at Lakewood know about our P.E. program.

All children have P.E. every day of the week for 30 minutes.  We need all students to wear tennis shoes along with comfortable clothing for the weather that day.  We have an activity room that we use only on rain days.

Friday Free Play is a weekly event on Friday that students get a chance to try different activities on their own.  On Friday students my purchase drinks and pickles for a $1.00.  Along with Friday Free Play we have Wheels Day each week.  For Wheels Day students may bring scooters, roller blades, skates or skate boards.  All equipment must be able to fit into a bag like a laundry or bat  bag that the child can carry.  With the use of any wheels at school students must wear a helmet.  If you require the use on any other equipment at home please send it with them.

Title IV`
Lakewood Elementary School is part of the Phenix City Public School System.
The programs and activities presented at Lakewood Elementary School comply with Title IV guidelines. We feel that a safe and drug free school environment is essential to student success.  Safe and drug - free school funds are available to all schools to support programs that prevent violence in and around schools, and prevent the illegal use of alcohol, tobacco and drugs.  These programs are also coordinated with other efforts that help schools and communities create a safe, disciplined, and drug free environment that supports student academic achievement.

Gifted Education
The Phenix City Public School System recognizes that all students identified as gifted in our system have the right to an appropriate education that provides educational interventions which sustain, challenge, and ensure continued growth.  The Phenix City Public School System's gifted education program is designed to identify students who demonstrate high intellectual capacity, high academic proficiency, and/or exceptional talent in expression or leadership.  This program includes specific measures designed to identify culturally diverse gifted students and ensures that no student will be excluded from either referral or participation in the gifted program because of behavior.

Resources for At-Risk Students
A building Based Student Support Team (BBSST) has been created to address students who my be at risk of not experiencing school success and may be in danger of school failure.  Each school has its own BBSST and the contact person may be found by calling the school office.
