Mrs. Kimberly
WigginsIt’s Wednesday and that means it’s time to honor a great teacher with the MEA golden Apple Award. This week’s winner is Kimberly Wiggins from Meadowlane Elementary School in Phenix City. Mrs. Wiggins grew up in Detroit, Michigan. She wanted to be a teacher so she could go back and help children in her hometown. She taught at a couple different schools there before coming here, to her new hometown. Mrs. Wiggins is a first grade teacher who teaches with passion, love and energy. All things that are contagious when you’re in her classroom. That’s why she’s this week’s winner of the golden apple. “She's nice, talented, fun to do stuff with and nice,” says Jason Anderson. But it’s not just the kids who are having a good time in class. Mrs. Wiggins is having a blast too. Mrs. Wiggins has been teacher for almost seven years and says it’s all about the little ones. They’re the reason she’s here. “I just think that's wonderful, it’s not about me, I know that sounds like I’m just saying it but its not about me, its all about the children, and about them succeed and me loving them enough to know they can succeed,” says Kimberly Wiggins. And she definitely does. She tells the kids they can be anything they want to be, the sky’s the limit. And she truly believes it. “I don't want anything, I want one of my children in my classroom or even my own child to do something to have an impact to change the world,” says Mrs. Wiggins. And they also have a blast together. Especially when it comes to one of her signature phrases. “One is you're the bomb dot com and they love that,” says Wiggins. No matter how she says it or what she does, Mrs. Wiggins is the light in these student’s lives. “She will always be there for us, she's nice and she's beautiful,” says Keondreay Franklin. Mrs. Wiggins has a hands on type of teaching style. She says that this generation of students needs to have a lot of things to stimulate their minds because they are used to technology. That’s why she uses computer games, video games, songs and anything active to get the students to understand the concepts. |
