Explorer School
     Announcements are updated as soon as possible.  Be sure to check the monthly calendars for scheduled events and lesson plans.  Newest announcements will be listed first on this page.

Jacob, Michael, and I will be going to the NASA Explorer Schools' Student Symposium from May 14th to May 17th.  Jacob and Michael will be presenting a PowerPoint on an investigation they completed and shared with the class.  It's called Turn the Beat Upside Down!

Fourth grade parents will be visiting our campus on May 3rd at 7:00 P.M.

Fourth grade students will be visiting our campus this week, April 25-29.

DARE graduation will be on the morning of April 29th.  After the ceremony and entertainment, we will be treated with lunch.  

Our Spring Fling Dance will be on April 21st from 3:30 P.M. to 5:00 P.M.

Progress reports will go out on April 19th.

There will be a PTA meeting at 7 P.M. on April 19th.

Students are out of school on April 18th for a Teacher Workday.  Have fun and be safe.

ARMT (Alabama Reading and Math Test) will be on Tuesday and Wednesday. (April 12th and 13th)

Spring Break is March 21-25, 2005.  Have fun and be safe!

Picture day is on Tuesday, February 22, 2005.

Parents, as of January 31st, you can open lesson plans as a Word Document so it can be easily printed.  I hope to be able to put them in PDF form in the near future.

Make up day for bad weather is February 23rd.  Students are out on the 18th of February.  Teachers will have an in-service day on the 18th of February.

Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday is on January 17th.

Report cards will go out on Friday, January 7th.

-Begin working on an experiment from a NASA site to perform and write a research paper that contains the process skills of the scientific method.  At this time you will only do the experiment (not a demonstration) and write the research paper.  No display project yet.

-Research paper is due on January 18, 2005.  (At this time, it doesn’t have to be typed.)   You will present your work to the class. http://www.pcboe.net/pcis/quest2/ScientificResearchPaper/index.htm

Christmas holidays are fast approaching, December 18, 2004-January 3, 2005.  Teachers will be reporting on Monday, January 3rd; however, students will be returning on January 4th.  Have a safe and happy holidays!

Red Ribbon Week:  October 25th - 29th, 2004.  

Safety Poster Contest entries are due on October 15.

Report cards go out on the 15th.

Family Reading Night is October 19th at 6:30 P.M. 

Wednesday, October 20th is Parenting Day.  There will be workshops, a Red Cross Blood Drive (10-3), and activities to observe.

School Pictures will be on October 21st.

ICMM Members
Pictures had to be rescheduled.  I will let you know when I find out the new date.
I have added a very important link from our math series.  Students will be given a user name and password to access the student math book, individualized activities and tests, as well as videos and other supplemental material for our math series.  
WalMart Project Insight. (September 13-November 13)  This is for any student with vision problems who does not have insurance or Medicaid.  If vision problems are detected after an initial eye exam, Wal-Mart will supply frames and lenses to students at no charge.  Referrals may only be made through our school system nurse, Sandy Gentry, by teachers or staff members.
Lion's Club Vision and Hearing Screenings (October TBA)  The Phenix City Lion's Club will conduct vision and hearing screenings during the month of October for all fifth grade students at Phenix City Intermediate School.
Scoliosis Screenings (October 18-22 tentative dates) for students in fifth grade through 9th grade.

Our first NASA Night will be September 14th starting at 6:30 P.M.  Come visit!
