Assignment Sheet for October 25-29, 2004

Monday

-Discuss the Word of the Week:  Kindness

-Brainstorm ideas about the word.

-Write the ideas in the Changing Lives activity book.

-Bring in a package of your favorite cookies for the class.  We will be completing writing assignments describing how the cookies taste, smell, look, feel, and sound before, during, and after we eat them.

-Write down all assignments in planner, even if they are completed.

-Get your planner signed by your parent/guardian every night.

-Write in the Daily Writing Composition book:  Signs of Autumn

-Go over last week’s work on verbs.

-Take a practice writing assessment by writing for 50 minutes on the writing prompt. Write a 5-paragraph expository essay:  Heroes come in all shapes and sizes. Explain at least 3 types of heros.  Discuss use of figurative language and descriptive verbs and adjectives.

-Know the parts of a friendly letter and business letter, as well as capitalizing and punctuating correctly.  Also, know how to spell contractions, compound words, and proper nouns.  Know how to use commas in a series and direct address.  (Mastery test Friday for the following students:  Robert, Naliaka, Tabious, and Jeffery)

-Participate in the Book It Program.

-Review estimating products of whole numbers and decimals by using pages 68-69, WB 17, 86-87, and WB WB 23.

-Work on Accelerated Math.

-Practice your timetables.

-Work on your individual Math Online Intervention and Take it to the Net website:  http://www.SFSuccessnet.com

-Identify and describe spheres of the Earth:

-Practice cursive handwriting.

-Identify linking verbs in sentences on pages 150-151.

-Form contractions from verbs plus not and complete sentences with the correctly spelled contraction on pages 152-153.

-Work on Accelerated Math.

-Multiply up to 3-digit numbers review using the grid worksheet and intervention WS 117.  Mastery test on Thursday.

-Practice your timetables.

-Identify past, present, and future tense and supply the correct forms of given verbs on pages 154-155.

-Write a 5-paragraph descriptive essay:  As the Cookie Crumbles.  Describe how your cookie tastes, smells, sounds, feels, and looks.  Discuss use of figurative language and descriptive verbs and adjectives.

-Solve problems from the Spiral Review and Test Prep transparency and the Problem of the Day.

-Use grid models to find products of decimals on pages 92-93 and WB 25.

-Work on Accelerated Math.

-Complete WB 26 on multiplying decimals by decimals.

-Study for mastery tests on Multiplying Whole Numbers and Decimals and Estimating Products of Whole Numbers and Decimals.

-Demonstrate knowledge of multiplying whole numbers and decimals up to 3 digits, including word problems by taking a mastery test.

-Write in the Daily Writing Composition book:  Costume Design

-Practice cursive handwriting.

-Identify the correct form of verbs and supply the correct form of verbs on pages 158-159.  (Subject-verb Agreement will be tested next week.) 

-Demonstrate knowledge of Letter Writing by taking second and last mastery test opportunity.

-Write a 5-paragraph descriptive essay:  As the Cookie Crumbles.  Describe how your cookie tastes, smells, sounds, feels, and looks.  Discuss use of figurative language and descriptive verbs and adjectives.

Red Ribbon Week:

Monday:  View a video about the history of Red Ribbon Week.  During P.E., run the mile.

Tuesday:  Donate $0.50 and wear a cap for Put a Cap on Drugs.  (Proceeds go to American Cancer Society)

Wednesday:  Wear as much red as possible for Red Ribbon Day.

Thursday:  Wear clothing that depicts an activity you are involved in, such as sports uniforms, scout uniforms, karate, etc. for We’ve Got Better Things to do Than Drugs. 

Friday:  Watch or participate in the fastest one-mile race for “Run Your Own Life...Stay Drug Free.”
