Talent Pool

I'm trying something new.  I have created a webquest for Organ Donation, the Future Problem Solving Program theme for the Qualifying Problem on February 9th, 2002, at Central High School from 2:00 P.M till 4:00.  Students need to be there no later than 1:45.  Students will use this site to complete a variety of activities.

Click here for a permission slip to participate in the FPS competition on February 9th.  4th, 5th, and 6th grade students are encouraged to participate.

Check out the students' pages.  They have been updated to include their autobiographies.

Some of the students have completed essays about their visit to the Columbus Symphony on November 14th.  Click on one of the apples below to find the students' pages and click on the animated musical notes.

Mrs. Garrett has also added Talent Pool.  Check out some of those autobiographies.

Students will be competing in the 2nd Practice Problem on Educational Options.  It must be mailed by Wednesday, November 27th.

A fieldtrip to Fort Benning's Infantry Museum is being planned for November 28th for 6th grade gifted students and selected 6th grade talent pool.  The trip is limited to 20 students.  This trip is to get ideas for History Day projects.

Attention:  There will be a PRACTICE Emergency Drill at Central High School on November 7th at 8:30.

Dynamite!

We received the results from the Future Problem Solving Practice Problem #1.  I am pleased to inform you that 2 of our participating teams placed.

1st Place:  Cameron Alexander, Stephenie McGucken, Kacy Jones, and Amber Whitehead

2nd Place:
Philip Morris, Trey Caudle, Logan Dollar, and Caitlin Scannell

Although the third team (Cody Pearcy, Jessica Phillips, Alia Spradlin, and Katie Powell) didn't place, they did very well for their first time in competing and have lots of potential.

Each team competed in different groups with 4 other teams from various Alabama cities.  This was only a practice problem; however, I am still very proud.  This competition requires a lot of research and problem solving skills!  Our kids did very well.

The students will be competing with a second practice problem in November.  The topic is Educational Options.  They have access to information on the topic.

Field Trip!

We are going on a fieldtrip to Mann's Museum and Tuskegee National Forest on October 29th.  You will be receiving a permission slip to sign.  Please return it as soon as possible.  If you are a parent of a Quest 2 student and would like to chaperone, let me know.  I have a couple of spaces.  Unfortunately, parents have to pay admission to the museum.

Students will be making Microsoft PowerPoint presentations of an animal they have chosen.  Students will share their presentations with their fellow students.  Completed Presentations are displayed on students' pages in their grade level showcase.

Many students have complete brochures of themselves.  I will print out each student one color copy of his or her brochure.

Students will be making video projects beginning the week of October 9th.  They will need to have 5 pictures of themselves and a videotape.  Students will write a 15-30 second caption for each picture, create a title page with caption, and make a credit page for the end.  We will videotape each picture as the student reads the captions.
