You are to become reading role models for the SGS student body! Share the joy of reading and get other students interested in checking out books by discovering more about specific authors, reading a book, and sharing your knowledge with the school. Get ready to design an author ad!
During the course of this Author Study Project you and your partner will: 1. Choose an author that interests you. 2. Investigate important information about your author. 3. Read a book by your author. 4. Design a poster or PowerPoint project to share information about your author and your book.
1. Choose an author that interests you from the Author Study Project Reading List. 2. Find a book written by your author that you would like to read. Please ask Mrs. Elrod or Mr. Harrison for help if you have problems locating your book. 3. Begin researching your author. You should record your information on the Author Study Project sheet. 4. Complete a rough draft of your poster or PowerPoint by using either the Poster Planning Template or the PowerPoint Planning Template. After the template is approved, you may begin work on your project. 5. Construct a poster or PowerPoint project using your template and author study notes. They should be creative and attractive, as well as provide important information about the author and help interest other students in reading books by that author. If you are constructing a PowerPoint, you should see the required content sheet.
In addition to any Internet searches, you may use the following resources to help you gather information on your author.
http://www.webenglishteacher.com/ya.html Use any of the following databases: Contemporary Authors, Scribner's Writers Series, Twayne's Author Series, Literature Resource Center.
You will be evaluated using two rubrics in addition to the grades you receive on your Author Project and template sheets. One will cover your poster/PowerPoint presentation, and the other your oral presentation.
You will now share your author expertise with your class! You will present your poster or PowerPoint project to your class. Excellent examples will be selected for display in the SGS Media Center or broadcast over SGS Channel 2!
