Celebrating Educational Excellence: Westview Elementary's Notable Achievement

In a remarkable display of educational leadership and commitment, Westview Elementary School (WES) stands out for its exceptional achievement in the latest state report card assessments. Under the guidance of Mrs. Heather Weston and Mrs. LaShawn Peterson, alongside Superintendent Dr. Sherrod, WES has showcased an impressive 14-point growth, earning recognition from Dr. Eric Mackey, the State Superintendent of Education. This accolade not only highlights their dedication but also marks a significant milestone in the school's journey towards academic excellence.

The recognition ceremony, held on February 8th in Montgomery, was part of the State Board of Education's initiative to honor schools that have demonstrated remarkable improvement and excellence in the 2022-23 school year. WES's achievement is a testament to the tireless efforts of its educators, whose innovative approaches and unwavering commitment have significantly contributed to this success.

Fifty schools across Alabama were celebrated for their outstanding performances, with rewards underscoring their achievements. The Legislative School Performance Recognition Program, established in 2012 and funded since 2020, allocated $250,000 annually to acknowledge schools that showcase academic excellence. Within this framework, twenty-five schools were named in the Top 25 category, each receiving $2,000, while the remaining twenty-five, including WES, were recognized for the most improvement in their report card scores, receiving $8,000 each.
