Welcome Sherwood Family and Scholars,
My Name is Mrs. Jessenia Figueroa, your school counselor at Sherwood Elementary school.
A little bit about me: I recently moved from Honolulu, Hawaii native, but I am a Florida native. I graduated from Chaminade University of Honolulu with a Masters in Science of Counseling Psychology with an emphasis on School counseling and Mental health. This is my first year at Sherwood Elementary and Phenix City Schools as the school counselor.
I love working with all students. My purpose as a school counselor is to ensure your student feels safe and enjoys coming to school everyday. I am passionate about helping all students reach their full potential. I truly believe that we can shape the future leaders of the world if we can guide them. As a counselor, I incorporate meditation practices, words of affirmation, and deep breathing in the beginning of my whole group guidance lessons. I help your students meet their social-emotional needs, improve in academics, and reach their goals.
I provide whole group guidance on topics like being kind, making friends, coping with trauma/issues, bully prevention, how to regulate emotions, etc. I also see students for individual counseling or small group counseling. I enjoy seeing students during whole group and individual sessions, but I CANNOT see a student for long-term counseling services. However, I can make suggestions or referrals if requested by families.
Additionally, I serve as the School's 504 coordinator, Military Liaison, and alternate Building Test Coordinator for State Testing. If you have any questions regarding any of the services I provide, please do not hesitate to contact me at 334-298-7097 or jfigueroa@pcboe.net
