B. Monroe

My name is Dr. Barbara Weaver Monroe, and I teach 5th Grade ELA and Social Studies. I have been an educator for 20 years. Prior to becoming an educator, I have served in other capacities in social services and the community. I have attended Walden University, Troy University, Auburn University, and Southern Union State Junior College. I was a 2013 recipient of the Hometown High Achiever Award in Phenix City, Alabama and the Unsung Hero Award from Columbus Times in 2017. I enjoy working in the community and have received numerous honors and awards throughout my career. I am an accomplished author of Poverty to Purpose, published in 2018, that gives an account of my experiences and life’s challenges that have become instrumental to my current success and passion for education. My favorite quote is that of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. “If you can’t fly, then run. If you can’t run, then walk. If you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward. I firmly believe that education is a powerful tool. Thank you for this opportunity to serve your scholar.
