General 1:1 Information

  • Phenix City Schools began a 1:1 initiative in 2015 by implementing take-home iPads in grades 6-8. The program has since expanded to include take-home Chromebooks for students in grades 6-12. In addition, students in upper elementary grades have the benefit of an electronic device for school-use only. Usage of the devices is governed by the PCBOE Acceptable Use Policy, found on pp. 32-37 of the PCBOE Student Code of Conduct (click here for Spanish version). Parents are encouraged to read the FAQ for Parents and Students Page, as well as the following information provided at Parent Nights.

  • Why did we choose Chromebooks for the 1:1 initiative?

    Posted by:

Some factors that contributed to the decision were cost, ability to manage devices, and our desire for students in these grade levels to not only have a keyboard but cloud storage in preparation for college and career readiness.

  • What is G Suite?

    Posted by:

G Suite (formerly GAFE) is simply Google Apps for Education. For us, it means that each student and teacher has a Google account with unlimited storage. Using Google Classroom, teachers and students can share files digitally without the need for printing.

Although it is possible to print from the Chromebook, we strongly encourage students and teachers to take advantage of sharing documents digitally.
