At Phenix City Schools, we prioritize the safety of our students during their daily journey to and from school. To ensure a secure and efficient transportation experience, we've outlined some essential procedures and rider guidelines for your understanding:

Bus Stop Locations: We strive to follow national safety guidelines and policies set by the National Center for Safe Routes to School and Pedestrian and Bicycle Information Center. We also follow guidelines provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Bus stops in areas with speed limits exceeding 35 mph will not be within 300 feet of each other.

Promptness Matters: To maintain a safe schedule and prioritize the well-being of all students, please ensure that your child is at the bus stop on time. Buses cannot wait on the roadway, as this may jeopardize the safety of others on board.

Consistency is Key: Students are picked up and dropped off at the same location each day unless special arrangements are made by local school administration.

Avoiding Back-Ups: We aim to avoid stops that require backing up whenever possible. If backing up is necessary, student pickups will be conducted before backing up, with drop-offs occurring afterward.

Cul-de-sacs and Disabilities: Buses generally do not enter cul-de-sacs unless they are picking up children with disabilities. Safe turnaround locations must be accessible without entering private property.

Visibility is Vital: All bus stops should provide sufficient visibility for both students and drivers to ensure everyone's safety.

Safe Waiting Distances: While waiting at the bus stop, students should maintain a distance of 12 feet from the physical "bus stopping position."

Walking Distances: Acceptable walking distances from home to the bus stop can be up to a quarter of a mile, depending on the location and environment.

Parent Responsibility: Parents are responsible for ensuring their child's safety between home and the school bus stop.

Transportation Eligibility: Please note that any school system in the U.S. reserves the right to deny transportation to students living within 2 miles of their school.

Inactive Bus Stops: If a bus stop remains inactive for two weeks, it may be discontinued until the district is notified of its need for service. Reactivation could take up to 10 days.

Transportation Requests: While we aim to accommodate transportation needs within 2-3 days, please allow up to 10 days for transportation arrangements for new locations or special needs children.

Confidentiality: Bus video footage cannot be viewed by parents unless ordered by a court due to confidentiality concerns.

Your Commitment to Safety: We ask for your cooperation in understanding and following these guidelines and policies to ensure the safety of all students during transportation. Please familiarize yourself and your child with our rules, discipline policy, and bus stop procedures outlined in the student handbook. Phenix City Schools prioritizes safety above all else, and we appreciate your cooperation as students and parents in maintaining a secure transportation environment. Please note that students who do not adhere to safe transportation procedures may have their transportation privileges revoked.

Thank you for partnering with us to keep our students safe on their educational journey. Your commitment is greatly appreciated.
